Mental & Physical Wellbeing during lockdown from Niamh Bailey

Here at Telford Mann, we know that being allowed to exercise outside the home for no more than one hour a day is challenging for most people. With the increased pressures on everyone at the moment to stay home and keep safe, we were keen to ensure we support the health and wellbeing of our workforce.

Our neighbours at the Ironstone Wellbeing Centre throughout lockdown have been releasing a series of online classes daily via their Facebook page, ranging from Yoga and Pilates to Tai Chi and FitSteps and Zumba dance classes; something which hopefully appeals to everyone. During difficult times it is important to provide support for mental & physical wellbeing and we have been encouraging all our staff to get involved. Yoga and meditation for example, teaches you the breathing techniques to alleviate stress and anxiety and provides you with a sense of calm and relaxation.

As we are all being told to stay indoors as much as possible, it is especially important for people to be able to exercise in their homes. These classes do just that and will go some way to helping with the current situation we all find ourselves in. For some this could be an opportunity to learn a new or skill or try a new form of exercise.

Many of our staff have got involved. When catching up with Chartered Financial Planner Kimberley, a regular yoga attendee, she reckons her yoga is improving slightly, although she did say someone was staring through her lounge window when she attempted the lizard pose in Paul’s class and she got a slightly confused look off them!

In this difficult situation it is important to keep positive and embrace new opportunities, something which our staff are rising to the challenge off.
